My Semester One Wider Reading Journey

I have read a total of 5 books over the course of 5 months and I honestly feel that my urge and desire to read books is nowhere near the level it was at a year ago. I do not have the strong desire to pick up a book and read it for hours on end, but now, that feeling of desire is rarely present within me, as I am often occupied with other tasks. I read over 20 books in the first half of 2018 as I was very compelled and had a thirst of discovering new book series that I would receive great joy from, I was only able to do this through the accessibility I had to a wide range of book recommendations and lots and lots of spare, free time, where I could just sit down alone and have a quiet read. On the Contrary, this year, the task of reading three books by the first semester has felt like a compulsion, with me only being able to complete the task as it was compulsory, I never received the feeling of voluntarily completing it, I only read the required amount of books as I was obliged to.

When I first walked into the school library, I was in awe. The sheer variety and extensive range of books that were all available to me, I had no idea what I was looking for, instead, I casually walked around and pulled random books off shelves, briefly read the blurb before putting it back or on rare occasions, taking it with me. I am quite a picky reader and I was not used to the great number of books at my disposal, my previous school’s library had been so small, with a restricting range of books.
