The power to develop a robust vocabulary

Poetry, a word often preluding a string of groans, sounds of disgust and the contempt of most people in our world today. While many would critique the ‘cringeworthy’ stanzas in front of them, these are the people who do not put enough effort into fully understanding the powerful message behind each poem. The process in writing one’s personal poem is similar to the steps taken in making your own favourite food or dish. While there are conventional recipes and recommended techniques that would make for a satisfactory poem, it is the composer’s chosen risk to put their own twists on the traditional methodology that really produces a great piece of work.

The ability to be calming

A great use of poetry reading can be through the use of the connection established from the author to the reader. While the author uses his/her passion and inspiration to put together a poem, just like song’s lyrics, the phrases within a poem has a unique and special meaning to each person who reads it; and everyone can connect to the intended, underlying themes and emotions established by the author. It is through this connection that a person may find relief or consolation in their time of suffering, all through the words of a poem. A person may be going through hard…
